Eckstrom Wins AMSOIL Duluth National Pro Open
Schubitzke grabs first podium of the year

Gaylord, Mich. ~ Team AMSOIL/Scheuring Speed Sports rider D.J. Eckstrom captured first place in the Pro Open class at the rescheduled AMSOIL Duluth National final in Gaylord, Mich. Eckstrom also found the podium with a third-place finish in the Pro Stock class. Eckstrom, who lives in Duluth, was excited to keep the trophy at home.  The veteran driver took the lead in the first corner of the final and never looked back.

“My team has been working extra hard trying to get ready for this event, and their hard work really paid off today.  The first corner was pretty intense in both the Pro Stock and Pro Open races.  Everybody piled in there and they were bashing and digging.  Coming out of there cleanly really made it a lot easier.”

After inclement weather moved in at the AMSOIL Duluth National on Thanksgiving weekend, the pro finals were rescheduled for the Gaylord, Mich. stop on the WPSA snocross tour. Eckstrom took the postponement in stride, landing on top of the podium at his hometown race again, sort of.

“D.J. won the AMSOIL race in Duluth last year, and I know how badly he wanted a repeat win,” said AMSOIL Racing Coordinator Jeremy Meyer. “It’s his hometown, and even though he finished the race elsewhere, he took that motivation with him and claimed his place at the top for a second straight year.”

Fellow Team AMSOIL rider Carl Schubitzke trumped his teammate in round two at Gaylord. Schubitzke finished second in Pro Stock while Eckstrom failed to make the final for the first time in recent memory.

After two rounds of WPSA racing the points standings have Eckstrom first in Pro Open and eighth in Pro Stock, while Schubitzke is thirteenth in Pro Open and eleventh in Pro Stock. The next round of pro national racing is January 14 and 15 at the Canterbury Snocross in Shakopee, Minn.
