AMSOIL Dominates Crandon
Team AMSOIL nabs four world championships, BorgWarner Cup
Crandon, Wis. ~ AMSOIL was on full display at the Crandon International Raceway on Labor Day weekend. After the dust settled on Sunday night’s BorgWarner Cup, AMSOIL sponsored drivers had taken home a total of 13 podiums, eights wins, four world championship rings and the BorgWarner Cup.
AMSOIL/Kumho Super Team member Scott Douglas led the charge with a sweep in the Pro-4 class, including Saturday’s World Championship race. The El Cajon-native also took home a second and third in Pro-2 and won the prestigious BorgWarner Cup on Sunday afternoon.
Fellow Super Team member Mike Oberg picked up his first career win in the Pro-2 class on Saturday. It marked the fourth time Oberg has won a World Championship ring, and he has done it in four different classes. The Eagle River, Wis.native also finished third in Pro-2 on Sunday and was the second Pro-2 truck to cross the finish line in the BorgWarner race. After a strong weekend of racing, Oberg now sits just 17 points out in the Championship Off-Road Racing (CORR) points race.
“I love Crandon Raceway and nothing is bigger than winning another World Championship ring,” said Oberg. “This absolutely makes my inaugural season in Pro 2 a success. This is the biggest race of the year. Everyone wanted this baby and I am glad to bring it home for AMSOIL, Kumho, Rancho Suspensions and my hometown fans!”
Super Team member Dan Vanden Heuvel (Pro-2) raced a competitive weekend, but steering issues caused him to have to muscle his way around the track both days. Vanden Heuvel finished with a tenth place finish on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Dan Vanden Heuvel, Jr. put together his strongest race of the season on Sunday. After getting caught up in a terrifying crash on Saturday, the younger Vanden Heuvel pushed his AMSOIL/Kumho Super Team Pro-Lite Nissan to a fifth place finish on Sunday.
AMSOIL was also represented well in the Sportsman and Buggy classes at Crandon. Dave Waldvogel won a World Championship ring on Saturday in the Sportsman Stock class. Waldvogel finished third overall in the series points race.
Sportsman 2 driver Dan Baudoux also had a strong weekend of racing. Baudoux won the World Championship race on Saturday and won the series championship by one point after picking up the weekend sweep on Sunday.
Mike Vanden Heuvel, driving in the Light Buggy class, finished the year out strong with two podium finishes. Vanden Heuvel followed his second place finish on Saturday with a win on Sunday, his second of the year. Vanden Heuvel finished fourth overall in the CORR points race.
