AMSOIL Late Model Series Cancelled For 2006
Tracks, Superior Company Fail To Reach Agreement

Superior, Wis. ~ The widely popular AMSOIL Late Model Series will take a one-year hiatus in the summer of 2006.  The six-race series, which is run annually at local dirt tracks, (Superior Speedway, Proctor Speedway, Hibbing Raceway and ABC Raceway in Ashland, Wis.), has been cancelled by AMSOIL due to a lack of agreement between the tracks over sanctioning and track fees.

“This is not an easy decision for AMSOIL to make,” said Jeremy Meyer, AMSOIL Racing Coordinator.  “We started this series seven years ago, and it has turned into a favorite of the local racing community and drivers from across the region.  We apologize to the fans and drivers that have supported the series throughout the years for this news.  All of the parties couldn’t come to an agreement on a number of issues, including sanctioning and enforcement of rules.  AMSOIL will work diligently with all of the tracks this summer to lay the ground work for a better series in the future.”

AMSOIL has long been a supporter of local dirt track racing.  The Superior, Wis. lubricant manufacturer will continue to sponsor some of the best late model and modified drivers in the region.  Names like Brady Smith, Pat Doar and Darrell Nelson are just some of local talent that will fly the AMSOIL logo in 2006.  Relationships with more than 100 late model, modified and sprint car teams in the United States and Canada is a major accomplishment, and commitment to the sport from AMSOIL.

“AMSOIL will also work with the tracks to provide the drivers a contingency for the missed rewards of a $15,000 dollar purse in 2006,” said Meyer.  “This decision in no way should reflect poorly on the tracks.  All four venues work tirelessly each year to bring the best in dirt track racing to the northland.  To wait any longer would have been unfair to everyone involved in the planning and implementation of the AMSOIL Late Model Series.”
