New Courses Add to Challenge

The UROC Pro Pacific Series paraded into Rocky Mountain Raceway this past weekend for stop #3 in the tour. Teams were surprised to find that in the last few weeks, UROC had quietly added more concrete and the old landscape provided a new challenge.

Team Lovell fought hard through the first day with near perfect runs on two courses and a rollover on the third. A tire war was brewing and at the end of the day BFGoodrich Tires sponsored Lovells were 3 points ahead of the Goodyear team of Steve Bulloch. When competition resumed on Sunday, all the modified teams faced nearly impassable super-modified class obstacles. The Lovells found themselves lined up for course #2. “We had to back up a steep climb, hang the rear axle over a cliff, and slide sideways down through the cones,” explained Brad, “ We were high enough that I did not want to think about it and I put all my trust in Roger.” The team made it safely off the rock but would point out before finishing this course.

At the start of the semi-final round, the team was now tied with Bulloch for first place. They would not look back and won the event tidily with a 26-point margin. “It felt like we had a tough event because we took a lot of cones and even rolled on one course. I guess in the end, everyone had a hard run.”

While the team might have felt rusty, the FABTECH Ford Ranger ran flawlessly. Roger commented, “We have had a lot of problems this season with the steering overheating because we can turn so sharp. We finally ditched the off the shelf power steering fluid and started using AMSOIL Tractor Transmission – Hydraulic Oil. A simple fluid change completely eliminated this ongoing issue.”

This weekend’s finish gives the team a 1st, 2nd, and 1st in the UROC series and a 14-point lead in the championship. Barring disaster, the team should be able to retain the UROC title. UROC announced that the final event will take place in legendary Farmington, NM, Sept. 14th – 16th. Farmington is one of the places where it all began and has not hosted a UROC event in 2 years. Supercrawl V will be held in Phoenix, AZ later in the year.
