USAF Lt. Col. Richard C. Barton Wins Celebrity Snocross Race During Powersports Snowmobile Tour Canterbury Event
SHAKOPEE, Minn. (Jan. 14, 2006) — Lt. Col. United States Air Force Richard C. Barton, Commander, 342D Recruiting Squadron won Saturday’s Celebrity Race, part of the Air Force Canterbury National Snocross at Canterbury Park. Barton beat Jeremy Meyer, director of racing for AMSOIL Performance Lubricants, by a matter of inches to take the photo finish.
“That was a lot of fun,” said Barton. “I have to applaud those men and women that do this for a living. I just did a couple of laps around the track and I’m dead. It was awesome.”
Meyer just missed passing Barton at the end. This was Meyer’s second runner-up finish this season, having competed in the season opener in November at the AMSOIL Duluth National.
“It was just three inches,” observed Meyer. “I just missed him.”
Local radio personality from 93X Matt “Weasel” Brooke finished third, followed by Mickyla Krueger, owner of motorsports apparel company Motor-X. Former Minnesota Vikings Safety Jack Brewer finished fifth after he hit the kill switch on his sled twice on the first lap. Brewer, who currently plays for the Philadelphia Eagles, vowed his revenge.
“I’ll be back next year,” quipped Brewer. “This was a lot of fun. I was a little worried in the beginning, but as soon as the green flag dropped, it was on.”
The celebrities competed on 300cc Ski-Doo Freestyle snowmobiles.
