Eckstrom, Schubitzke Qualify for Winter X Games
Both riders to attend nationally televised event in Aspen, Colo.
Aurora, Minn. ~ Team AMSOIL/Scheuring Speed Sports rider Carl Schubitzke will join teammate D.J. Eckstrom at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo. at the end of January. Schubitzke qualified for the annual competition last weekend at the World PowerSports Association (WPSA) Regional Snocross event at Park X in Hill City, Minn. Eckstrom qualified for the event during the AMSOIL Duluth Nationals on Thanksgiving weekend.
Last year, Team AMSOIL riders Eckstrom and Schubitzke were the only two Polaris pilots to make the nationally televised finals at the Winter X. Schubitzke was a favorite going into the competition, but his pursuit of the gold ended when he was bumped off his sled after battling for the holeshot.
“No one works harder than the Scheuring Speed Sports team,” said AMSOIL Racing Coordinator Jeremy Meyer. “They know that Winter X is a chance for the world to see how determined they are at being the best team in snocross. Nothing compares with snocross at Winter X. It is the premier attraction in Aspen, and Team AMSOIL will be prepared for an exciting weekend of racing.”
Schubitzke will be pursuing his first medal at Winter X; Eckstrom has a silver (2002) and bronze (2003) medal sitting in his trophy case.
“It’s not unrealistic to see both Carl and DJ on the podium this year,” said Meyer. “Both pilots have the equipment, ability and experience to win at Winter X. No two drivers deserve it more they do.”
Eckstrom and Schubitzke have been long-time friends since the duo attended Proctor High School in Proctor, Minn. They both currently live in Duluth, Minn. and are front-runners on the WPSA Snocross Tour.
