X Games Ends Early For AMSOIL Duo
Eckstrom, Schubitzke look to return to top form at rescheduled event.
Aurora, Minn. ~ Team AMSOIL/Scheuring Speed Sports Snocross pilots D.J. Eckstrom and Carl Schubitzke had the desire to run well at Winter X 10 in Aspen, Colo. last weekend. What the two top riders were lacking, however, was the power.
Thirty-two of the world’s best riders qualified for the annual ESPN showcase. Eckstrom, who has raced at Winter X every year since 1998, and Schubitzke lined up for Saturday’s quarterfinal heat with the hopes of finishing in one of the top-four transfer positions. Engine problems, however, caused both riders to finish out of the top four, with Eckstrom taking a sixth in his heat and Schubitzke an eighth.
“A week of testing showed the sleds working flawlessly,” said team owner Steve Scheuring. “As soon as we go on the actual track on Friday, the sleds started to miss going through the bumps and in the air. We tried everything we could think of to fix the problem, but when Saturday rolled around, the sleds were still having problems in the higher elevation.”
Eckstrom and Schubitzke will be back in action on February 11, 2006 as the World PowerSports Association heads to northern Minnesota for round five of the PowerSports Tour. The race, which had been scheduled for Buffalo, N.Y., was rescheduled for the Park X track in Hill City, Minn. due to a lack of snow in up-state New York.
Eckstrom is currently in second place in the Pro Open standings and just seven points out of first. He is also fifth in the Pro Stock class. Schubitzke is currently 12th in Pro Stock and 14th in Pro Open. Both riders live in Duluth, Minn.
