Carson, Calif. ~ Team AMSOIL motocross rider Kevin Windham is back into his customary championship form after a successful weekend of racing at the Jeremy McGrath Invitational in Carson, Calif.  Windham, who finished second overall in the AMA Outdoor Nationals Motocross series, was the top rider at last weekends “off-season” event at the Home Depot Center.

The event featured two nights of racing, including two full-field main events and two single elimination, head-to-head brackets that left only one rider standing at the end of the night.  Windham made the weekend look easy, riding in his smooth and effortless style, sweeping every race he entered all weekend long.  Along with winning both feature races, Windham won both nights of head-to-head racing, beating teammate Josh Grant in both finals.  Grant, who rides in the Supercross Lites class, ran even with the K-Dub despite having the less powerful bike.

“The match race was something that kept you on the edge,” said Windham.  “It was a little scary. You had to ride a lap and a half completely perfect. That’s tough to do through all the brackets and not make any mistakes. The first couple races were a little unevenly matched, but when you got to the final couple, you couldn’t make any mistakes. Josh Grant was riding so well on a Lites bike too—none of us on the big bikes wanted to get beat by a Lites guy! There was some pressure with that. Everything worked out the way I wanted to, but you never know with that kind of thing.”

The Jeremy McGrath Invitational will air on NBC on October 22 after the NASCAR Nextel Cup Race. Windham and Grant will be taking part in this weekend’s U.S. Open of Supercross in Las Vegas.  The entire AMSOIL-sponsored supercross team will begin the AMA Supercross series the first weekend in January.
