Official Press Release
(Maple Grove, MN)
Officials of the World Snowmobile Association
(WSA) have been informed the World Snowmobile
Association has been selected as the recipient
of the United States Air Forces prestigious American
Spirit Award. The award places the WSA amongst
some august company, including names such as Bob
Hope, Lee Greenwood, the Green Bay Packers, Congressman
Jack Kemp, Senator Margaret Chase Smith, Goodyear
Tire and Rubber Company to name a few.
The American Spirit
Award, first presented to Bob Hope in 1980, is
the highest form of recognition given by the Air
Force Recruiting Service, and is presented twice
a year to a person or organization who has consistently
displayed continual support, patriotism and service
to the country.
WSA's relationship
with the 342d Air Force Recruiting Squadron and
the Air Force Recruiting Service has been nothing
less than fantastic this year, according to Mariano
C. Campos, Jr., Lt Col, USAF, and Commander of
the 342d Air Force Recruiting Squadron. Due to
the great efforts of WSA in working with Air Force
Recruiters, we have been able to bring the Air
Force message to areas of the country that aren't
normally exposed to what opportunities the Air
Force has to offer. WSA executives like Mr. Scott
O'Malley as well as the entire WSA team have been
extremely gracious to us by giving us not only
venues to participate in, but also exposure via
media outlets. If there were such a thing as a
model for a partnership between Air Force Recruiting
and a Corporation, I believe the relationship
we have with WSA would be it. That's why we were
so proud to nominate WSA for the American Spirit
Award, the highest given by the Air Force Recruiting
Service. WSA truly deserves it!
The World Snowmobile
Association was recognized for its contributions
to the Air Force recruiting effort throughout
the country. During the 2001-2002 Season, the
WSA provided Air Force Recruiters numerous opportunities
to reach audiences in Minnesota, South Dakota,
Colorado, Michigan, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire,
and Wisconsin.
WSA provided the
Air Force with booth space for recruiters as well
as circulating printed material during events.
WSA announcers provided live commercial spots
throughout the events, highlighting the many opportunities
the Air Force provides. At select National and
Regional races live interviews with Air Force
personnel were conducted, and space was allocated
for the Air Force Experience Simulator vehicle.
At the Manufacturers Cup race held at Canterbury
Park in the southern Minneapolis suburb of Shakopee,
Minnesota, the WSA increased their level of support
even more. The Air Force was provided advertising
generally reserved for high level sponsors, including
prominent placement of the Air Force logo on tickets,
banners and television ads. The WSA even arranged
for ESPN coverage of the Air Force presence at
the race.
We are truly surprised
and honored to receive this award, said WSA CEO
Scott OMalley. The Air Force has done so much
for this country and our way of life over the
years, and it certainly has been called on recently
into a very active role. To be able to do what
we could for the Air Force was really an honor
itself, and to receive this award is, well, very
special.
