Eckstrom Finishes Third in First Event Back from Knee Surgery

Duluth National Snocross Fans Cheer On Hometown Favorite

Spirit Mountain, Duluth, Minn. ~ AMSOIL/Polaris/Scheuring Speed Sports driver DJ Eckstrom made his highly anticipated return to World Snowmobile Association snocross racing with an impressive third place showing in the talent-packed Pro Open final yesterday at the 12th Annual Ski-Doo Duluth National Snocross.

The Duluth native missed the second half of last season after tearing up the anterior cruciate ligament of this right knee during a race. Reconstructive surgery and hundreds of hours rehabilitating the knee paid off with a strong showing at the season's opening event. "The knee is a little sore right now, but it didn't bother me on the track," said Eckstrom afterward the race.

Eckstrom began his return to racing with an eighth place finish in the Pro Stock class. AMSOIL teammate Justin Tate, of Forest Lake, endured three broken shocks on his sled in route to a 13th place finish in Pro Stock and a respectable ninth place in Pro Open.

Eckstrom may fly below the media's radar, but knowledgeable fans know the quiet snocross star is soaring to the top of the sport and is a story worth following. Eckstrom is tied for second in overall Pro Open points while Tate is just out of the top ten at 12th. Eckstrom is eighth in the Pro Stock standings with 14th place held down by Tate. "I like where we are right now. If you look at the big picture we're right on track," said Team Owner Steve Scheuring.

Team AMSOIL prepares for an ESPN X-Games snocross qualifier at WSA Park X, Quadna Mt. in Hill City, Minn. on December 6-7. Then, it's on to the Canadian Open at Assiniboia Downs, Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 12-14.
