Knee Injury Ends Eckstrom's Promising
Season
Teammate Tate
Ready to Step Up - New Driver Joins Team AMSOIL
Superior, Wisconsin
~ D.J. Eckstrom will have season ending knee surgery
for a torn ACL. The injury happened when his knee
buckled during a preliminary heat at a World Snowmobile
Association event in Vernon, New York Saturday,
February 8. Eckstrom made all of his starts that
weekend, but returned home for testing. MRI results
show a complete ligament tear in his right knee.
Surgery is set for later this month. "This
is an incredible blow to D.J. and the team. He
was having his best season with a shot at a points
title that he's worked so hard for," said
John Schuldt AMSOIL Racing Coordinator. Eckstrom
was third in overall WSA Pro Open standings, just
24 points out of the lead and fifth in the Pro
Stock class. He was coming off a spectacular silver
medal Snocross performance at the Winter X Games
in Aspen, Colorado where he was also fourth in
the Hillcross.
Justin Tate will shoulder a majority of the load
for Team AMSOIL. Tate showed he's up to the challenge
with a second place finish in the Pro Open event
at Valcourt, Quebec last weekend. Tate is 11th
in Pro Open points and 10th in Pro Stock.
Joining the AMSOIL/Polaris/Scheuring
Speed Sports team for the remainder of the season
is Ross Martin of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
Martin is a Semi-Pro driver who is finding success
in WSA Southern Wisconsin/Illinois Regional events.
The 18-year-old leaves the series leading the
Semi-Pro Open and Semi-Pro 600 Performance classes
and is second in Semi-Pro 440. "Ross is a
talented rider who, with the right equipment,
could make a name for himself on the Pro level,"
said Steve Scheuring Team AMSOIL owner. Martin
will draw on his motocross experience to compete
at the next level. He did race for Team AMSOIL
at Valcourt with positive results.
