2002 AMSOIL Late
Model Series Champ Begins New Season With Win
Superior, WI ~ Joel
Cryderman of Thunder Bay, Ontario made a strong
bid to repeat as AMSOIL Late Model Series Champion
with a convincing win at Hibbing Raceway. Cryderman
set a blistering pace in the 35-lap main event
last evening. The red headed Canadian earned a
spot on the front row for a race restart and shortly
thereafter checked out leaving the rest of the
field in his wake.
Hours of moderate
rain threatened the postponement of the AMSOIL
event, but quit with just hours before the scheduled
start. The Hibbing track crew did a heroic job
of grooming the clay track and making the soggy
pit area manageable for the 48 cars and teams
that came from across the upper Midwest to race.
Cryderman takes the
early lead in the 2003 AMSOIL Late Model Series,
but with a strong performance Steve Laursen is
in second, Tom Waselseki is third, John Kaanta
fourth and Duane Mahder rounds out the top five.
Northern Lights Casino
and Cellular One sponsored this AMSOIL Series
race. The 2003 AMSOIL Late Model series is sponsored
in part by KQDS-TV FOX 21 and WEBC-AM 560.
The next race is
set for the new and improved Proctor Speedway
on June 24.
