Team AMSOIL Finishes
WSA Season with a Flurry of Fantastic Finishes
Superior, Wisconsin
~ Justin Tate put Team AMSOIL on the podium again
with a stunning Pro Open National finish at the
Nielsen Enterprises Grand Finale in Lake Geneva,
Wisconsin. Tate passed two competitors in the
final four laps for third place. This was Tate's
second consecutive World Snowmobile Association
Pro Open third place finish. He ends the Snowmobile
World Championship season with three podiums in
a row and four in the final five weeks.
It's been a tale
of two seasons for Tate. He struggled through
the first half of the WSA schedule, but ended
with seven top tens and a trio of top three finishes
in Pro Open for fifth place overall. In Pro Stock
action, Tate had four top tens and a third place
to end the year in seventh place. "The team
performed great this season. It wasn't easy with
all the emotional ups and downs," said Team
Owner Steve Scheuring. "We look forward to
building even higher on a foundation started with
AMSOIL and strengthened with the addition of Polaris."
AMSOIL Teammate DJ
Eckstrom is recovering from a season ending knee
surgery, but through four events he contended
for a Pro Open championship with a second place,
two thirds and a sixth. He also had three top
ten finishes in Pro Stock. A highlight was Eckstrom's
earning a silver medal at the 2003 Winter X Games
in snocross and placing fourth in hillcross. "The
team triumphed despite the loss of Eckstrom,"
said AMSOIL Racing Coordinator John Schuldt. "They
came together, worked even harder and defined
teamwork."
Ross Martin was brought
in late in the season to ride for the injured
Eckstrom. In his short rookie run he finished
in the top 20 overall in both classes. Martin's
highlights include winning a LCQ race at Shakopee,
Minnesota and earning top qualifier honors at
Gaylord, Michigan.
