Team AMSOIL in Super Bowl of Snocross
Locally Based Riders to Compete
in Winter X-Games
Aspen, CO ~ The nation's elite snocross racers will
converge this week on a Colorado mountain to determine the best of the
best at ESPN Winter X-Games VIII. DJ Eckstrom of Island Lake, Minnesota
again leads a strong AMSOIL team to Buttermilk Resort January 30 - February
2. AMSOIL teammate Justin Tate of Forest Lake, Minnesota is also in
the exclusive field of competitors.
Eckstrom already has three podium finishes in four World
Snowmobile Association events. He's currently third overall in the Pro
Open Class and fifth in Pro Stock. Tate has podium finishes in the first
two events of the Super Snow Cross Stadium Series. He's in the top 12
in WSA Pro Open and Pro Stock. Both riders will compete in snocross
and hillcross.
Team Owner Steve Scheuring of Aurora, Minnesota has
taken Team AMSOIL to the games five years running. Eckstrom placed third
two years ago and has never finished out of the top six. AMSOIL struck
gold in 1999 with Chris Vincent riding the now familiar black sleds.
Eckstrom earned a return trip to the games with his
top six performances last season. Tate was awarded entry to the games
with his 2002 International Iceland Championship. Qualifying rounds
are held across the country to fill the 32 snocross and 27 hillcross
spots. Snocross is an oval course with deep drops and big air jumps.
The hillcross course goes straight up the mountainside nearly a half-mile
with monster mounds and large launching pads.
