Brust Bests Field in AMSOIL Late Model Event

June 9, 2004 ~ It rained, but not on Paul Brust's parade. The Rice Lake, Wisconsin driver won the second AMSOIL Late Model Series event of 2004 Tuesday night at Hibbing Raceway.

Brust took the lead following a race restart with 13 of the 35 scheduled laps remaining. Brust held off a strong, late challenge by Darrell Nelson. Harry Hanson was third. Brady Smith finished fourth. Trent Follmer crossed the finish line in fifth.

After the race Brust praised track conditions and said the bit of rain that halted racing for a short while may have made the clay course better. This was Brust's first AMSOIL Series win.

It's Hanson who leads the overall AMSOIL Series point standings. He has a slight one-point margin over Nelson. Follmer is third. Smith comes in fourth. Rounding out the top five is Tim McMann only 12 points behind the leader

The six races of the AMSOIL Late Model Series are run on four northern Minnesota and Wisconsin WISSOTA sanctioned dirt tracks. There's a total payout of $14,000. The champion will pocket $5,000, an etched-glass trophy and a supply of AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricant products. The next race is scheduled for Proctor Speedway on June 22.
