Windham and Grant are Double
Treat at Red Bud
July
6 ~ Kevin Windham put together a great effort
in round five of the AMA Chevrolet National
Motocross Championships sponsored by AMSOIL
at Red Bud in Buchanan, Michigan. Windham
finished third in the first 250cc moto and
did one better in the next moto to finish
second. The combined finishes gave the AMSOIL/Chaparral/Honda
rider second overall.
Not
to be outdone, Josh Grant made a statement
in the 125cc class posting a third place podium
finish. Grant has been highly touted since
leaving the amateur ranks for Team AMSOIL
just a few weeks ago. Expectations have been
high and Grant is living up to the hype. In
the first moto he finished a conservative
eighth place. In moto two he found another
gear, kicked it down and finished second.
The combined results gave the rising star
third place overall and his first podium finish.
In the days leading up to the Red Bud race
Grant split time with former champions Jeff
Stanton and Mike LaRocco. It appears Grant
was a quick study. He's now seventh in the
standing... and jumping up.
Mike
LaRocco returned to outdoor motocross racing
at Red Bud. It may have been more nostalgia
than anything else. LaRocco hasn't been racing
competitively since the end of the supercross
season and the rust sort of showed. It didn't
matter to fans who clamored for LaRocco like
a rock star. It was at Red Bud that LaRocco
honed his skills and learned to be a champion.
LaRocco finished sixth overall with moto finishes
of ninth and sixth. Funny though, the results
from the one outdoor national race puts LaRocco
in the top 20 for the season.
AMSOIL
125cc rider Ryan Mills, Chris Gosselaar and
Greg Schnell were also in action. Mills finished
11th, Gosselaar 14th and Schnell 15th. AMSOIL
has all four 125 riders in the top 20. Along
with Grant at seventh, Mills is 12th, Gosselaar
14th and Schnell moves up to 18th.
