Brooklyn, Michigan ~ Michigan
International Speedway is home to great racing,
notably NASCAR, but last weekend the World
Snowmobile Association took its turn and turned
laps there.
The AMSOIL/Polaris/Scheuring
Speed Sports team turned heads when it unveiled
a prototype Polaris "Mod" snowmobile.
DJ Eckstrom rode the one-of-a-kind sled to
spectacular qualifying finishes. Clearly Eckstrom
and the new machine were the combination to
beat. An unfortunate collision with another
competitor forced Eckstrom off the track in
the final.
Eckstrom made amends in Pro
Stock. Riding his regular sled Eckstrom captured
second place in the final. It was his second
consecutive podium finish in the class and
it moves him amongst the leaders vying for
a championship. He continues to chase the
Pro Open title, too. He's currently third
overall.
Team AMSOIL teammate Justin
Tate finished fourth in Pro Stock. He's eighth
overall. A mechanical problem kept Tate from
the Pro Open final, but he remains seventh
in overall points.
There are two WSA events
still on the schedule. Round nine is set for
the hallowed "frozen tundra" of
Lambeau Field March 5-7. It will be the first
non-football event held in the famed stadium.
