LaRocco and Team AMSOIL Win
Anaheim 2 Supercross
Anaheim, CA ~ Mike LaRocco continued his string of strong
performances with a triumphant return to the
top podium at Round Three of the AMA/EA Sports
Supercross at Edison Field. Always considered
one of the best in the sport for his consistency,
it had been seven years since LaRocco had
won a race. “This is such a relief,” said
LaRocco.
LaRocco, of South Bend, Indiana,
is a two-time motocross National Champion
and the 2001 motocross World Champion. Last
season he and Team AMSOIL finished third in
the overall supercross points chase without
a win, but instead with a series of top finishes.
LaRocco is considered the elder statesman
in a sport where younger riders rule, but
the 14-year veteran still has some gas in
the tank. “I know now - in my heart and mind
- that I can win against the fastest riders
in the world," said LaRocco. “I’m going
to use the confidence that I’ve gained in
a relentless pursuit of the overall title.”
LaRocco’s last main event win was April 1995
in the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan.
The Saturday, January 19 event was the third time in
three races where LaRocco has put the AMSOIL/Dr. Martens/Journey/Honda
team on the podium. LaRocco finished in second place overall in the
250cc final during week one which was also in Anaheim and followed up
last week with a third place finish in San Diego. LaRocco is currently
second in overall points, just five points behind the leader David Vuillemin
of France. The next stop is Phoenix, Arizona this weekend. The series
winner will be crowned in Las Vegas this May.
