1991 BMW M3
AMSOIL Dual Remote
By-Pass Filter System

BMK-14 remote filter, with (2) 45°
and (2) 90° fittings installed on a 1991 BMW M3 with a
2.5l S14 engine
Since I upgraded to the DTM intake,
it was hard to do oil changes. The intake plenum would have
to be removed since the oil pan and oil cooler lines are in
the way. There is simply no way to access the filter from
below the car.
Now oil changes take 10
minutes instead of the 2+ hours. Did I mention NO mess?
Installation was simple. Measure
twice cut once. It did take a while to figure out what extra
fittings that were needed. The kit only comes with straight
fittings. This made it hard to mount it in the cramped engine
bay. You want to keep the hoses as straight as possible. Thus
the need for 4 extra fittings. (2) 45 deg° for the oil
filter housing, and (2) 90° for the engine block filter
adapter. The hoses are about 18 long.
All in all I was very happy with
this kit. I noticed that my oil temps are a few degrees less
and now I run a higher capacity oil filter. This makes less
of a pressure drop in the filter. It should catch more particles
and flow more oil, always good on a very expensive engine.
One word of caution. The filter
will get VERY hot, and should not be touched once the engine
is driven. Putting it in a very easily accessed point, it
woke me up once or twice.
