AMSOIL Dual Remote By-Pass Filter System

In trying to improve the longevity of my 2001 Ford F-350 Powerstroke diesel truck, I decided to install AMSOIL's outstanding By-Pass dual filtration kit.  Before installation I was using AMSOIL's latest and much improved EaO Full Flow engine oil filter and have been using AMSOIL AME 15W-40 diesel oil since I bought the unit.  However, I felt that because of the significant investment I have in the truck I would like the ultimate in filtration to dramatically reduce engine wear & tear, so I installed the by-pass unit. 

Somewhat unsure of the particulars of installation, I enlisted the unselfish help of AMSOIL Dealer Dave Mann in Michigan, who coached me via email as to what accessories to order and gave me a few very valuable installation tips. 

As Dave stated, the most difficult part of the entire installation procedure was the fabrication of the mounting bracket.  I chose a scrap of aircraft aluminum I had around the shop and bent it with a vice and a large rubber hammer to tightly fit within the 7.00" inside dimension of the frame member.  An additional 'back plate' was added to avoid any kind of metal fatigue, and the bracket was bolted in utilizing fender and lock washers, making an incredibly sturdy, rustproof mounting platform.

The fittings on the hoses were very impressive to me, and after I assembled them and attached the optional 90° fittings to the engine filter adapter, the quality and workmanship of the components became quite evident.  After the job was complete I fired up the 7.3L engine and checked the oil flow by first observing the oil pressure gauge at the instrument panel and then placing my hand on the full flow filter underneath the truck.  Soon I felt the filter begin to warm up and then, very slowly, the by-pass filter began to warm at the top first, with not a leak to be seen anywhere! 

Everything Dave shared with me worked out exactly as planned. This is an excellent accessory for your diesel, and I would highly recommend it to anyone!
