AMSOIL Dual Remote By-Pass Filter System BMK-17

The best place I found to mount this By-pass filter was right behind the bumper on the front of the vehicle. I couldn't install it inside the drivers side frame due to the steering box. I could not use the oil sample petcock when I installed it on the inside of the passenger side frame. The other place I found that would have worked was behind bumper below the grill. I would have had to remove the rubber air dam that pushes the air across the radiator and not under the vehicle.

I drilled and tapped four holes inside the passenger side frame and used 5/16" NC body bolts from the local auto parts store. I didn't have to fabricate any brackets, the one that came with the bypass set up worked fine.

I mounted the brackets then installed the bypass filter block onto the brackets. Then I installed the JIC fittings and hoses and routed them to where the filter mount is. I installed the filters then removed the old oil filter and installed the filter adapter and JIC fittings that came with the kit. I routed the inlet hose up and over the frame then behind/under the steering column rod in order to avoid binding the hose. Then I routed the outlet hose over the frame then back under the steering pump so as to not route the hose close to the exhaust manifold.

Ford did not make it easy to change out the oil filter much less the room to run and hook up additional hoses. You have to be very careful not to route the hoses where they will touch the exhaust manifold, power steering pulley or the cast aluminum cooling water fitting on the bottom of the engine.
