AMSOIL BMK-11 Remote By-Pass Filter System
Submitted by Dean Clark
This BMK-11 was mounted under the engine, behind the oil pan on the inside frame rail. This location provides the maximum protection from road debris. This method also allows the AMSOIL oil hoses to be used without adding length in some applications. I’m always trying to have an install appear factory so this method took some thought.
First the hot side turbo boost tube must be removed, then the complete air intake system must be removed in order to gain access. Once these parts are removed, you will have room to install the fitting “tree” although work space remains very tight.
(Photo 1) shows a 5/16" steel line which I will install later. I used the AMSOIL hose from the kit for ease of installation purposes.
I used similar fittings as the 2004 instructions for the Pressure side in order to install the kit supplied "T”. The first fitting is a #4 to 1/4 SAE female swivel. This fitting allows the complete install of oil pressure transmitter and additional fittings as an assemble.
In order for the BMK-11 to be used, I moved the oil pressure transmitter and 1/4 NPT / #4 “O” female to the horizontal port of the “T”. In this installation the transmitter is located under the turbo discharge nozzle allowing the OEM harness to hook up without modifying it. Using the kit supplied 1/4 NPT I believe insures minimal pressure drop at the “fitting tree”.
Pressure source for the BMK-11. The top “T” fitting is used to connect the kit supplied flare 1/8" NPT connectors as shown below. The pressure hose runs under the alternator mounting bracket then down and behind wiring harness' to prevent damage from exhaust heat. Once passed the engine, the pressure feed line runs above the engine frame next to the transmission cooling lines, then into the filter mount.
Oil return line simply runs from the filter mount then connects to the rear of the oil pan via the hollow bolt fitting supplied with the installation kit.
All hoses follow factory routes to ensure “safe-passage” and minimize chance failure.
Return line is located on back side of oil pan (Photo 4) to help protect hoses from road hurdles.
I used the kit supplied hollow bolt to return oil to the engine. The return line is approximately 14 inches long.
(Photo 5) shows the pressure supply line following the transmission cooling lines for protection.
Hopefully this little info guide will help you design a factory appearing install for your 05 or 06 6.0 PSD Superduty!
