Special Instructions:
The attached pictures (see below)
are of a BMK-13 installed on a 1990 BMW 325is with the 2.5
inline 6 cyl. gas engine. The "shelf" where the
mount sits is part of the stock configuration on the 6-cylinder
cars. The only additional parts needed were a strip of metal
and an elbow to run the lines through. Both of these were
purchased at Home Depot and came to less than $15.
The strip of metal was bent into
an L shape on a bench vise and cut to fit the shelf. One hole
was drilled closest to the engine for a bolt and the other
hole on the upper end was already in place. Next, some of
the left over metal was drilled to accept the mounting bracket
included in the BMK-13 and then placed at an angle to allow
the filter elements to be spun off without a problem. The
other end of this piece was bolted to a support bracket. At
the end of the shelf, another support was run out and bolted
to the shelf. The bracket is very secure and wont go
anywhere. Since this car will be driven on roadcourses, this
was a big consideration.
Since the oil supply and return
lines run very close to the exhaust manifold, the rubber elbow
was used to help hold them near the firewall as they make
the bend around towards the mount. An existing bolt was used
for this purpose.
The main bracket that the mount
sits on was fabricated in a way that allows the filters to
be spun off in place (slightly messy), or after the removal
of three bolts, the whole assembly can be raised for a neater
approach. There is also sufficient room to get a sampling
bottle under the petcock for easy sampling without removing
the mount. Overall, I couldnt be happier with the kit
and look forward to using this installation as a showpiece
for potential customers.
