Douglas Dominates In First Win
AMSOIL Super Team driver takes Pro-4 win going away

Bark River, Mich. ~ The AMSOIL/Kumho Tires Super Team continues to prove their potential in the Championship Off-Road Racing series this year. After a number of close finishes, Pro-4 driver Scott Douglas pushed the competition aside for the team’s first win in the four-wheel drive class.

Douglas, who is a former 2x-world champion in CORR, returned to the Pro-4 class this year after running in the two-wheel drive Pro-2 class the past few seasons. The El Cajon, Calif. native has been one of the fastest guys on the CORR circuit this season, and has been in the mix for a win the past two weekends. In Bark River, Mich., last weekend, Douglas put it all together for his first win of the year in Pro-4, beating the competition by more than eight seconds and 20 truck lengths. Douglas also finished fourth in the Pro-2 class on Saturday.

“Saturday was a real solid day for Douglas Motorsports,” commented Douglas. “The win in PRO-4 and the fourth in PRO-2 allowed us to gain quite a few championship points. The competition is so strong in both divisions that you have to constantly look for ways to get the trucks faster and handle better. AMSOIL kept our engine and driveline temps just where we want them. Bark River is a very technical track and both trucks were flying straight and cornering fast.”
 
Douglas also raced on Sunday in both classes. Accidents in the first turn in Pro-4 kept the AMSOIL truck from repeating its Saturday win. The Ford F-150 had a flat tire, forcing Douglas into a last-place finish. In Pro-2 Douglas’ truck broke a rear spring and after starting the race battling for a top five, he had to settle for 12th.

Douglas wasn’t the only Super Team member to take a podium at Bark River. Dan Vanden Heuvel drove his Chevy to a third place finish in Saturday’s Pro-2 class. The veteran driver made a mid-race charge from seventh to third, despite losing the tread on his right rear tire. Vanden Heuvel finished fourth on Sunday.

Mike Oberg also had a strong showing. The “rookie” Pro-2 driver finished sixth on both Saturday and Sunday. The Eagle River, Wis.-native moved himself up from ninth in the season points race to sixth with six races left.

Two more Vanden Heuvel’s were on the track in Bark River. Mike Vanden Heuvel had a spectacular Sunday, winning his first career race in the Light Buggy class. Dan Vanden Heuvel, Jr., who is a rookie this season in the Pro-Lite class, finished seventh on Saturday and 11th on Sunday. He was able to record the second fastest lap time on Saturday and currently sits 13th in the points race.

The AMSOIL Super Team will be back in action on Labor Day weekend. The CORR series heads to the prestigious Crandon International Raceway in Crandon, Wis. for the BorgWarner World Championships.

Dedick Continues Dominant Run
Tough Truck nabs another win

Essex Junction, Vt. ~ After being flooded out for their July race, Autumn Woods Racing was itching to get back into competition two weeks ago in Essex Junction, Vt. Led by former series champion Jeff Dedick, AWR was looking to regain their winning edge.

Dedick, along with first year driver Ricky Brantley, pushed their AMSOIL sponsored trucks to the limit on the short courses offered at the 4-wheel Jamboree. Dedick brought home the win despite the hot and dusty conditions. Brantley finished amongst the leaders in fifth. Dedick leads the series points race and Brantley is currently in second.  The team will be racing this weekend in Bloomsburg, Penn.

Brady Smith Settles Into WDRL
Team AMSOIL Late Model driver gaining ground

Superior, Wis. ~ Brady Smith had a very solid week in four World Dirt Racing League (WDRL) shows across the upper Midwest. The ultra-busy week kicked off August 7 at the Superior Speedway in Superior, Wis. Smith finished third in his heat race before ultimately running ninth in the 50-lap A-Main. The Deuce then turned to the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, Minn. on Tuesday. Smith rolled off fourth for the $5,000 to win main event and was running in that position until suffering a mechanical failure under the hood of his AMSOIL-powered Monte Carlo. He wound up finishing a disappointing 24th in the final rundown at Alexandria.

The team regrouped on Wednesday, as they tackled the Fox Ridge Speedway in Arcadia, Wis.  The "Deuce" had his best outing of the week at Fox Ridge, finishing second fastest in qualifying, second in his heat race and running second in the dash before posting a strong runner-up finish in the A-Main.  The four-race WDRL stretch concluded on Thursday night, August 10 at the Freeport Raceway Park in Freeport, Ill. Smith came up just short of his goal of winning the race, taking fifth in the final rundown.

“I think we had a pretty solid stretch in the WDRL events last week,” said Smith. “We were in the mix at each event, competing for the win on a couple of occasions. I am excited that our program is back where it needs to be and we are running up front. The wins will come in time, as long as we keep fielding strong racecars.”

This coming weekend will bring the Brady Smith Racing team to the famed Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Ind. The historic quarter-mile, semi-banked dirt oval will host a $2,000 to win unsanctioned event on Friday night to get the doubleheader weekend started. The NARA Late Model Dirt Series will then invade the fairgrounds oval on Saturday for the annual 'Jackson 100.'
