Lovell Brothers Take Another Win
New courses add to challenge for rock climbing team

Salt Lake City, Utah ~ The UROC Pro Pacific Series paraded into Rocky Mountain Raceway last weekend for the third stop of the 2006 season. Teams were surprised to find that in the last few weeks, UROC had quietly added more concrete and the old landscape provided a new challenge.

Team Lovell fought hard through the first day with near perfect runs on two courses and a rollover on the third. The AMSOIL sponsored Lovell’s were three points ahead of the second place team after day one. When competition resumed on Sunday, all the modified teams faced nearly impassable super-modified class obstacles, including a vertical stretch of rock that reached for the heavens. They would not look back and won the event by a 26-point margin.

“It felt like we had a tough event because we took a lot of cones and even rolled on one course,” said Brad Lovell. “I guess in the end, everyone had a hard run.”

“We have had a lot of problems this season with the steering overheating because we can turn so sharp,” said Roger Lovell. “We finally ditched the off-the-shelf power steering fluid and started using AMSOIL Tractor Hydraulic-Transmission Oil. A simple fluid change completely eliminated this ongoing issue.”

This weekend’s finish gives the team two wins and a second in the UROC series and a 14-point lead in the championship. Barring disaster, the team should be able to retain the UROC title. UROC announced that the final event will take place in legendary Farmington, N.M., Sept. 14 – 16.

Brady Smith Sets Record Time at Deer Creek
Team AMSOIL late model driver fastest around 3/8-mile oval

Spring Valley, Minn. ~ Team AMSOIL late model driver Brady Smith out of Solon Springs, Wis. pushed the heat aside last Friday for a record setting night of racing at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn.

Smith took part in a pair of World of Outlaws (WoO) Late Model Series races at the 3/8-mile oval.  “The Deuce” started the weekend off on a blistering pace Friday.  He set a new track record at Deer Creek in the preliminary time trials by touring the oval in 14.27 seconds.  Smith then ran fourth in his heat race and finished eighth in the 50-lap final.

On Saturday night, Smith continued his torrid pace at Deer Creek.  The AMSOIL sponsored driver was fourth fastest in qualifying.  He went on to win his heat race and finished fourth in the night’s “Dash” to earn an outside, second row starting spot for the A-Main.  In front of the SPEED Channel cameras, Smith went on to a third place finish in the $10,000 to win feature.

“It was a great weekend for us, especially considering the quality of cars present all weekend,” said Smith. “I think I got the raw end of the deal on Friday night when I was knocked back a row in the heat race for allegedly jumping the start.  I probably would have finished second in the heat race instead of fourth, which would have started me a couple of rows up higher in the feature.  But overall, I was pleased with how our AMSOIL car performed all weekend and I am really looking forward to Cedar Lake this weekend!”

Smith will continue his 2006 Summer Tour this week at the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis.  The young late model driver will take part in a World Dirt Racing League event on Thursday, August 3, followed by the track’s two nights of racing, USA Nationals and $50,000 to win.  Smith will return home on Monday night and take part in a WDRL race at the Superior Speedway in Superior, Wis.
