San Bernardino, Calif. ~ Team AMSOIL/Factory Connection finished the AMA Outdoor Nationals motocross season with two riders in the top three of their respective classes. The AMA wrapped up its final weekend of racing at the Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, Calif. September 9-10, 2006.
Kevin Windham continued his second half surge with another podium finish at Glen Helen. “K-Dub” finished second in Sunday’s first moto, but was plagued with bad luck in the second. At the start of the second moto Windham was in third and contested for second at times, but on lap four he ran into some mechanical problems when his ignition box came loose and was dangling from his bike. After pulling into the pits for a quick fix, Windham reentered the race in eighth and eventually finished seventh. K-Dub finished fourth overall for the day, and second overall for the season behind Ricky Carmichael.
In the Motocross Lites class, Team AMSOIL rider Josh Grant ran with the leaders all weekend. The California rider finished fourth in the first moto and sixth in the second moto, taking fourth overall. Teammate Tommy Hahn finished 11th and fourth, giving him sixth overall. Grant was one of the top riders in the Lites class all season, finishing third in the overall season standings.
The AMSOIL/Factory Connection team will be back racing in the AMA Supercross Series starting in January. The AMA Outdoor Nationals are televised on OLN (Schedule).
AMSOIL Title Sponsor at Eagle River Derby
Superior, Wis. Company signs three-year deal to sponsor track, race
Eagle River, Wis. ~ AMSOIL has signed a three-year agreement with the Eagle River Derby Track making AMSOIL the title sponsor and Official Oil of both the track and the Eagle River World Championship Derby. The two companies came to agreement in August of this year.
Chuck Decker, Derby Track owner, voiced his enthusiasm. “I can’t think of a company that is better suited to own the title to the World Championship Snowmobile Derby,” said Decker. AMSOIL is recognized as a tremendous force in snowmobile racing, and we are extremely proud to have them on board.”
“The agreement with Eagle River is just outstanding,” agreed Jeremy Meyer, AMSOIL Race Coordinator. “AMSOIL is really solidifying its place in oval ice racing and again demonstrating its commitment to racing as a whole. This track has such a storied history and there are so many great events happening at Eagle River throughout the season, we’re happy to be a part of that great tradition.”
The AMSOIL Eagle River Derby Track is located in Eagle River, Wis. The track is hosting the 44th annual AMSOIL Eagle River World Championship Derby from January 18 – 21, 2007. “Smith Dialed In, But Out of Race”
Late Model racer fast, but invert rules slow weekend
Solon Springs, Wis. ~ Team AMSOIL late model driver Brady Smith and his #2 team traveled to the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio last weekend for the annual running of the 'World 100.' Unfortunately, Smith was one of 167 participants that did not make the starting field for the prestigious event, which only starts 28 drivers in the A-Main. The driver of the AMSOIL Monte Carlo timed in an impressive sixth fastest in qualifying on Friday, September 8, but could only muster a sixth-place finish in his heat race and an eighth-place effort in the B-Main on Saturday.
“We qualified great the other night, but with the six-car invert in each heat, it was a little too good,” commented Smith. “The invert not only hurt me, but only two of the top ten qualifiers made the show through the heat races or the B-Main. Our car was pretty good on Saturday, but with the quality of competition in your heat race and consolation event, it makes it really tough. But, we are getting better and better each time we visit Eldora so that is encouraging.”
The Brady Smith Racing team will travel south to the Hawkeye State this weekend for the annual ‘Yankee Dirt Classic’ in Farley, Iowa. The popular midwestern event is held each year at the Farley Speedway and this year’s winner will go home with a cool $10,000. The action kicks off at the “Palace of Speed” on Friday, with the 100-lap A-Main slated for Saturday evening.
