Crandon, Wis. ~ It’s been nearly a decade since AMSOIL/Kumho Super Team member Scott Douglas has won a Pro-4 race at the famed Crandon International Raceway in Crandon, Wis., but the 10-time world champion returned to the winner’s circle in a big way on Labor Day weekend.
Douglas, who joined the Super Team this past winter, destroyed the competition in the four-wheel driver Pro-4 class on Saturday, winning a World Championship ring in the process. The El Cajon, Calif. driver backed up his impressive win with a weekend sweep of the class on Sunday. Then, to prove to the world that he is still one of the top drivers in off-road racing, Douglas won the prestigious BorgWarner Shootout, the sport’s biggest race.
"It's nice to be back on top and this is a powerful win and statement by our team", said Douglas. "It has taken plenty of hard work by my crew and sponsors and they need to share in this win. We couldn’t be happier to be representing AMSOIL and its great products. We were running some high engine temps on Saturday and it’s unbelievable how much that oil saved me.”
Douglas also continued his dominance in the Pro-2 class at Crandon. With more than 40,000 people lining the hillside at the “Super Bowl” of off-road truck racing, Douglas took a third place finish on Saturday and a second on Sunday. No other driver has ever been as dominant as the AMSOIL driver was this past weekend.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Douglas. “It’s like the Indy 500 of off-road short course racing. The level of competition is just wild. There are no points to be had. Everybody is running for the money and it’s pretty much race ‘em or wreck ‘em. The press that goes with this win is huge. Ford will tour that trophy all over the country and will probably have my truck on display at SEMA, the Detroit Auto show, etc.”
Douglas, who has won three of the past four sanctioned Championship Off-Road Racing (CORR) events, now moves into sole possession of third place in the series points race. Douglas is only 19-points behind leader Johnny Greaves with only four races left. The championship battle will continue September 23-24 in Chula Vista, Calif.

Fellow Super Team member Mike Oberg picked up his first career win in the Pro-2 class on Saturday. It marked the fourth time Oberg has won a World Championship ring, and he has done it in four different classes. The Eagle River, Wis. native also finished third in Pro-2 on Sunday and was the second Pro-2 truck to cross the finish line in the BorgWarner race. After a strong weekend of racing, Oberg now sits just 17 points out in the Championship Off-Road Racing (CORR) points race.
“I love Crandon Raceway and nothing is bigger than winning another World Championship ring,” said Oberg. “This absolutely makes my inaugural season in Pro 2 a success. This is the biggest race of the year. Everyone wanted this baby and I am glad to bring it home for AMSOIL, Kumho, Rancho Suspensions and my hometown fans!”
Super Team member Dan Vanden Heuvel (Pro-2) raced a competitive weekend, but steering issues caused him to have to muscle his way around the track both days. Vanden Heuvel finished with a tenth place finish on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Dan Vanden Heuvel, Jr. put together his strongest race of the season on Sunday. After getting caught up in a terrifying crash on Saturday, the younger Vanden Heuvel pushed his AMSOIL/Kumho Super Team Pro-Lite Nissan to a fifth place finish on Sunday.
AMSOIL was also represented well in the Sportsman and Buggy classes at Crandon. Dave Waldvogel won a World Championship ring on Saturday in the Sportsman Stock class. Waldvogel finished third overall in the series points race.
Sportsman 2 driver Dan Baudoux also had a strong weekend of racing. Baudoux won the World Championship race on Saturday and won the series championship by one point after picking up the weekend sweep on Sunday.
Mike Vanden Heuvel, driving in the Light Buggy class, finished the year out strong with two podium finishes. Vanden Heuvel followed his second place finish on Saturday with a win on Sunday, his second of the year. Vanden Heuvel finished fourth overall in the CORR points race.
Dan Vanden Heuvel, Oberg and Vanden Heuvel, Jr. will all take part in the next round of CORR on September 23-24 in Chula Vista, Calif.
AMSOIL Motocross Continues Podium Run
Windham, Grant find a spot on the box
Delmont, Pa. ~ Team AMSOIL Motocross rider Kevin Windham continued his second half surge by grabbing another podium at the AMA Outdoor National event at the Steel City Raceway in Delmont, Pa. on Labor Day weekend.
Despite a muddy track, Windham rode to a fourth place finish in Sunday’s first moto. The Louisiana native turned in an even stronger ride in the second race of the day, landing on the podium with a third place finish. Windham ended the day with a third overall and now sits alone in second place in the AMA standings. Ricky Carmichael clinched the series championship two weeks before.
Teammate Josh Grant showed up on the podium twice in the Motocross Lites class. Grant finished second in the first moto, and followed that strong ride up with a third place finish in the second moto. Grant is currently fourth overall in the Lites class.
The AMSOIL/Factory Connection team will be back racing on the AMA Outdoor Nationals circuit this weekend for the series finale at the Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, Calif. The AMA Outdoor Nationals is televised on OLN.
Lovell’s Head South of the Border
Team AMSOIL grabs second in WE-Rock, heads to Mexico
Guanajuato, Mexico ~ The AMSOIL duo of Brad and Roger Lovell has recently returned home from rockcrawling adventures stretching from northern California to central Mexico. First up was the final stop in the 2006 WE-Rock Series at Donner Ski Ranch located near Lake Tahoe.
The Lovell brothers were pushed to the limit battling one of their greatest rivals, Dean Bulloch, for the entire event. After two days, the Lovells were tied with Bulloch for the lead with only the final round to go. A severe 10-foot drop was the undoing for the team, as the Ford Ranger tipped over for the second straight day, putting the truck hopelessly stuck on its roof and in second place.
After returning home, Brad and Roger would immediately depart for scenic Guanajuato, Mexico. The colonial city played host to the inaugural UROC Mexico event and the team was invited as special guests.
“My only wish is that we could have brought the Ranger,” said Brad, “Everyone has so much energy and was interested in the sport and our team. We had a great time with great hosts and plan to return for next year’s event.”
Don’t miss team Lovell at the UROC series finals Sept. 30 in Farmington, N.M. where they hope to again be crowned season champions.
