| AMSOIL Offshore Team Takes Win in Patchogue |
The AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team of Bob Teague and Paul Whittier competed in the OPA Battle of the Bay last weekend in Patchogue, N.Y. After dominating a race with the P-1 class boats, the next race produced a deck-to-deck battle with the highly competitive Motley Crew team. The two boats swapped positions a couple of times before Team AMSOIL pulled on the inside lane on the front straightaway of the 5 1/2 mile course. Just then, a guardian condition in the Motley Crew boat’s left motor caused them to veer sharply to the left toward the Team AMSOIL boat. Teague and Whittier were able to maneuver the boat to avoid a collision, passed the Motley Crew boat and took the victory.
The Patchogue race was the second in the Geico Triple Crown series. The team’s win resulted in an unbeatable first place position for the 2009 Cat Lite Triple Crown title. Team AMSOIL also holds the points lead in the OSS and OPA sanctioning organizations and is tied for first place in Super Boat International.

| Hord to Drive Douglas Motorsports 4x4 Race Truck in BorgWarner Cup Race |
 |
Douglas Motorsports will field two identical AMSOIL Kumho Ford F-150 off-road trucks in the BorgWarner World Championship Cup race in Crandon, Wis. on Labor Day weekend. Two-time BorgWarner champ Scott Douglas will drive the number 7 AMSOIL Pro 4x4, and Pro Light champion Chad Hord will drive a matching Douglas Motorsports AMSOIL entry. The team recently tested both trucks at Crandon, and Hord quickly proved the transition to a full-size 4x4 race truck with 900 horsepower will not be a problem.
|
“Chad Hord is very deserving of this opportunity to drive one of the AMSOIL Ford F-150s from Douglas Motorsports,” said AMSOIL Race Program Manager Jeremy Meyer. “His program is top notch, and he has the ability to compete with the best drivers in the sport at Crandon. AMSOIL has two cup winners on its Super Team in Mike Oberg (Baldwin Memorial Cup) and Scott Douglas (two-time BorgWarner Cup), and Chad has the talent to bring home a third. The Pro 4x4 class just got a lot deeper with Chad Hord running for this year's prize, and the world will get to see it live on ABC."
The 2009 BorgWarner Cup race will air live on ABC on Sunday, September 6 at 3 p.m. Central Time. |

Team AMSOIL/Torchmate Finishes Fourth in Vegas to Reno Desert Race
|
After months of preparation, Team AMSOIL/Torchmate racers Brad Lovell, Bill Kunz, Greg Jones and Nick Socha recently competed in the Vegas to Reno desert race aboard the #7231 AMSOIL/Torchmate Ford Ranger. Comprised of 1,000 miles of rock, silt, whoops and danger, Lovell describes the race as the longest and toughest point-to-point race in the United States.
Jones and Socha started the three-day staged race, and the truck quickly moved to the front of the 7200 class over the first 200 miles. When the truck slid into the pits, Lovell and Kunz quickly took over, but soon hit a boulder that bent the driveshaft and forced them to limp into the next pit. After a quick repair, the duo reached the finish in fourth. Charging into the dust on the second day, Lovell and Kunz successfully reached the next driver change 230 miles later. However, the truck struck a series of jumps two miles later that cascaded it into a barrel roll and nearly ripped it apart. Although Jones was taken to the hospital, the team decided to repair the truck and press on, with Lovell taking the driving duties and Socha navigating. After the truck became stuck in an enormous silt hill, the crew spent the night making repairs, and Lovell and Socha started their mad dash to the finish the next morning. After accepting some help digging out of another silt bed, Lovell expertly guided the truck over the next 150 miles before handing driving duties over to Kunz, who finished out the race fast and clean. The team finished fourth in the 7200 class and 63rd overall. |
