Hord, Kincaid, Greaves and Vanden Heuvel Take Victories in Bark River
Team AMSOIL Earns Seven Podiums
Larry Pegram

The seventh and eighth rounds of the 2009 Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL were held July 11-12 at Bark River International Raceway in Bark River, Mich.

In the Pro Light class, AMSOIL Super Team driver Chad Hord took the win on Saturday, with Chris Brandt and Marty Hart finishing second and third respectively. Hart led most of Sunday's race until his truck caught on fire, allowing AMSOIL driver Jeff Kincaid to pass for the victory, while Brandt earned another second place podium and Casey Currie took third. Hord's day ended early after a driver spun out in front of him on the third turn of the first lap, breaking the truck's sway bar. He sits just one point behind Kincaid in the championship standings.

AMSOIL racer Johnny Greaves dominated the weekend’s Kumho Tires Pro 4x4 class, taking the victories on both Saturday and Sunday, as well as two Oakley Bomb Run Awards for the fastest lap times. Greaves shared the podium on Saturday with the father and son team of Curt and Kyle Leduc, while AMSOIL Super Team driver Scott Douglas earned the second place podium on Saturday, with points leader Rick Huseman taking third.

Longtime AMSOIL-sponsored driver Dan Vanden Heuvel was victorious Saturday in the AMSOIL Pro 2WD class, and he led most of Sunday's race until a flat tire ended his quest for a weekend sweep. Rob MacCachren and Ben Wandahsega finished second and third respectively on Saturday. Sunday’s race brought the fans to their feet with excitement as AMSOIL racer Jeremy McGrath narrowly missed his first victory after leading several laps. He finished second behind MacCachren, while Todd Leduc rounded out the podium with a third place finish.

Sunday's Bark River races air on ESPN2 this Sunday, July 19 at 11:30 a.m. EST.

The Pro classes of the 2009 TORC Series return to Bark River International Raceway for rounds 9 and 10 on the weekend of August 8-9. TORC will host a Sportsman class weekend of racing in Oshkosh, Wis. July 24-25.

Kevin Windham To Race Summer X Games and U.S. Open

Team AMSOIL supercross/motocross star Kevin Windham has been invited to take part in two events at the ESPN Summer X Games: the Moto X Step Up on July 30 and the Moto X Super X race on August 1. Windham has also committed to racing October 9-11 at the Rock Star Energy Drink U.S. Open at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Windham has enjoyed success at the event in the past, placing as high as second in 2000 and 2005. In his five appearances at the U.S. Open, he has finished no lower than seventh.

“The U.S. Open is a fun weekend for the riders and fans,” said Windham. “The MGM Grand Garden Arena provides a great atmosphere for a race. It’s like you come to a party and a race breaks out. This fall is going to be exciting because I will race the U.S. Open the first part of October and my wife, Dottie, and I are expecting our fourth child at the end of the month.”

Smith Finishes Third in Grand Forks
Team AMSOIL late model racer Brady Smith was back in action with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series last week as the Wild West Tour kicked off with events in Minnesota and North Dakota. Competing in the Gopher 50 on July 8 at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., Smith qualified 10th quickest in time trials and finished second in his competitive heat race. After drawing the pole position for the main event, Smith lost his brakes early in the race and finished 14th.

Smith returned to competition July 10 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. He again timed in 10th fastest in qualifying before running second in his heat race, later passing two cars in the A-Main to finish third in the final rundown.
