AMSOIL Racers Take Eight Podiums

The Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL returned to the West Coast on the weekend of September 25-26 for two exciting rounds of racing at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif.

AMSOIL Super Team driver Scott Douglas started the weekend strong, fighting off Kyle LeDuc and dominating the Kumho Tires Pro 4x4 class on Friday with a first place finish.  Adrian Cenni finished second, while AMSOIL-sponsored racer Johnny Greaves took the third place podium and AMSOIL-sponsored racer Steve Barlow earned the Oakley Bomb Run Award for the fastest lap time.

Ricky Johnson and Jeremy McGrathRob MacCachren took the win in the AMSOIL Pro 2WD class, while AMSOIL-sponsored drivers Ricky Johnson and Jeremy McGrath finished second and third respectively.  McGrath also took home the Oakley Bomb Award.

AMSOIL Super Team driver Chad Hord took the early lead in the Pro Light class, but got caught up in lapped traffic, allowing Chris Brandt to take the win.  Hord eventually finished fourth, while AMSOIL-sponsored driver Jeff Kincaid finished second and Marty Hart finished third.  Kincaid also took the Oakley Bomb Award.

Jeff KincaidIn Saturday’s Pro Light racing action, Hord once again jumped out to an early lead, but had to pit during the mandatory caution due to a flat tire.  Kincaid took the first place finish, as well as his second Oakley Bomb Award of the weekend and 10th of the season.  Hart earned the second place podium, while Todd Cunningham finished third.

In the Kumho Tires Pro 4x4 class, Douglas was looking for a weekend sweep and jumped out to an early lead, but was passed by Rick Huseman for the win.  LeDuc finished second, while Douglas earned the third place podium.

Mike Oberg's Hood

The weekend concluded with the AMSOIL Pro 2WD race, where Greg Adler got sideways and left AMSOIL Super Team driver Mike Oberg nowhere to go but straight into his side, sending Adler on his roof and leaving Oberg with a severely damaged truck.  Oberg guided the truck to a second straight sixth place finish, while MacCachren took the win, AMSOIL racer Dan Vanden Heuvel finished second and Todd LeDuc took third.  Johnson took the Oakley Bomb Award.

The final two rounds of the 2009 Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL will be held October 23-24 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track in Las Vegas, Nev.

Team AMSOIL Wins Second Consecutive OSS National Championship

The AMSOIL Offshore Racing Team of Bob Teague and Paul Whittier traveled to Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. on the weekend of September 26-27 to compete in the Offshore Super Series (OSS) 2009 National Championships finale.  Holding a slim one-point advantage in the OSS points standings, Team AMSOIL knew it needed a win to secure its second consecutive OSS National Championship.

When the green flag dropped for the first of two 45-mile heats, Team MHQ Financial gained a slight lead and finished nine seconds ahead of Team AMSOIL.  After a propeller change and balance adjustment, Team AMSOIL again locked horns with Team MHQ Financial in the second heat, taking the lead at turns six and seven.  Because they had to beat Team MHQ Financial by more than nine seconds to secure the championship, Teague and Whittier knew there was no room for error and continued to nail the turns and carry good speed down the straights.  They eventually crossed the finish line 12 seconds ahead of the second place MHQ Financial boat, giving Team AMSOIL the overall win by a mere three seconds and securing its second consecutive OSS National and High Points title.

Team AMSOIL also currently holds an unbeatable position in the SBI points chase and has already secured the 2009 OPA Cat Lite Championship and first place in the Geico Triple Crown Series.

AMSOIL/Torchmate Team Wins Silver State 300, We-Rock National Championship

AMSOIL/Torchmate racers Brad Lovell and Bill Kunz competed in the 322-mile Silver State 300 desert race aboard the #7231 AMSOIL/Torchmate Ford Ranger on September 26 in eastern Nevada.  After darting from the starting line second in their class, the duo briefly took over the lead when the truck in front pulled off at the first pit, but they soon found themselves back in second after pitting at race mile 90.  Although they lost a few more positions when they stopped at race mile 120 to fix a loose battery terminal, they found themselves challenging for the lead once again as two competitors pulled off course to make repairs.  The team took the opportunity to refuel when the race was stopped to clear a truck that caught fire after knocking down a power pole.  Running clean and fast the rest of the race, Lovell and Kunz took the checkered flag at the finish line, winning by only five minutes, 17 seconds.

Having already wrapped up the XRRA National Championship this season, Team AMSOIL/Torchmate rock racers Brad and Roger Lovell set their sights on the We-Rock National Championship last weekend in Farmington, N.M.  Smart moves and skillful driving, including a perfect score on the tough B4 course, earned the team an 18-point lead heading into the final round, where Roger guided the #232 truck to another victory and the We-Rock National Championship.  Teammates Jesse Haines and Brian Howard took the third place podium.

"I am proud of our team, family and sponsors for this accomplishment," said Brad Lovell.  "No single truck has ever won the National Championships in both XRRA and We-Rock.  All we did between events is change the tires and gearing.  It says a lot for the versatility of the truck and parts we use."

New Contest Tests Fans' Carbide-Changing Skills

The AMSOIL/Scheuring Speed Sports snocross team is introducing a new hands-on contest for fans this season.  Introduced last month at the Haydays Snowmobile Grass Drags & Swap Meet in Lino Lakes, Minn., the object of the Woody’s Carbide Quick Change Challenge is to replace a carbide on a snowmobile ski as quickly as possible.  The contest will take place at several racing events this winter, including the AMSOIL Duluth National and Air Force National snocross events and the Eagle River World Championship Snowmobile Derby.  Team owner Steve Scheuring explains the details in this video.
