Team AMSOIL Kicks Off Supercross Season
Anaheim, Calif.
Team AMSOIL kicked off the 2009 AMA Supercross season January 3 in Anaheim, Calif. With the team thinking of sending 2008 Lites Eastern Regional Supercross Champion Trey Canard to the supercross class next season, they decided to give him some experience on the west coast tracks, where he is competing in the Lites Western Regional Supercross Series with teammate Dan Reardon this season.
In the main, Canard was taken out by another rider exiting the second turn. After restarting, he experienced some more bad luck, which cost him even more time. He soldiered on to a 14th place finish. Meanwhile, Reardon experienced his own run of bad luck. After grabbing the lead and holding it for the opening two laps, he fell to second and was soon hit by another rider and knocked down. Unable to restart his bike, Reardon finished the day in 19th.
In the 450 class, Kevin Windham got off to a good start, jumped into fourth and quickly started gaining on third. However, as Windham attempted to push himself into second after race leaders James Stewart and Chad Reed crashed, Stewart pushed his bike in front of him and sent him to the ground. He eventually finished 15th.
Phoenix, Ariz.
The second round of the 2009 AMA Supercross season was held January 10 in Phoenix, Ariz. In the 450 class, Windham started near the tail of the top 10, but quickly began moving forward, pushing up as far as fifth before losing one spot and finishing sixth.
In the Lites class, Reardon worked his way through the pack to finish 10th. Teammate Canard was fast all day, but a miscalculation on the first lap of his heat race led to a crash that cost him his chance of advancing to the main event.
The third round of the 2009 supercross season takes place Saturday, January 17 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. |
