AMSOIL Presenting Sponsor and Exclusive Official Oil of Traxxas TORC Series
logoAMSOIL has signed a three-year agreement with the Traxxas Off-Road Championship (TORC) series to become the presenting sponsor and Exclusive Official Oil of the premier off-road short course racing series in North America. The newly-formed series is now referred to as the Traxxas TORC Series Presented by AMSOIL.

“Since the formation of the AMSOIL Super Team four years ago, AMSOIL has shown a steady and growing commitment to off-road racing,” said Jeremy Meyer, AMSOIL Race Program Manager. “To have the opportunity to share in the vision laid out by series owner Rickey Johnson is a wonderful honor. As presenting sponsor and Exclusive Official Oil of TORC, AMSOIL will help push the excitement and passion of off-road racing to the forefront.”

AMSOIL is also taking on the title role of the TORC PRO 2WD class starting in 2009, and the company is continuing its history of supporting racers, including major sponsorships this season with AMSOIL Super Team members Scott Douglas, Mike Oberg and Chad Hord, along with several other teams the company has supported in past seasons.

“AMSOIL is a great fit for TORC,” said Johnson. “The commitment level goes well beyond their investment in the series. This off season, AMSOIL worked closely with TORC, its drivers and the sponsor community to help deliver an excellent mix of racing and entertainment. Their three-year commitment is well beyond our expectations.”

TORC brings together the best of Midwest short course off-road racing with exciting new West Coast venues, and the series has exclusive rights for premier events at legendary tracks such as Crandon International Off-Road Raceway and Bark River International Raceway. The 2009 season kicks off May 15 in Fort Worth, Texas.

The 11th round of the 2009 AMA Supercross season, and the fifth round of the Lites Eastern Regional Supercross Championship, was held March 14 at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, La. After a mediocre start, Team AMSOIL racer Kevin Windham quickly started moving his way up the pack, pushing up to seventh by the race’s halfway point and cruising into fourth over the next four laps. He finished a strong fourth. In the Lites class, Blake Wharton entered the main event riding the momentum of his first career heat race win. A quality start in the main put him around sixth place, and he started moving his way forward. Just before the halfway point, Wharton passed teammate Daniel Blair for third and held on for the first podium finish of his career. Teammate Blair ran inside the top five for most of the race, but lost a few positions in the final few laps. He finished a strong seventh.

AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series Wraps Up in Lake GenevaLogo
Held the weekend of March 20-22 in Lake Geneva, Wis., the Nielsen Enterprises Grand Finale marked the last event of the 2008-2009 AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series, and over 30,000 fans were on hand to see the final races and the crowning of the season’s Pro Super Stock and Pro Open champions.

In the Pro Super Stock class, Garth Kaufman and Levi LaVallee entered the weekend tied for the overall points lead, and with each earning a win in his respective heat race, the title came down to the final, where LaVallee grabbed the quick lead and held on for the win and the championship.

In the Pro Open class, T.J. Gulla entered the weekend with a 15-point lead over teammate Brett Bender and only needed to finish 13th or higher to claim the championship. Pegram Earns Third Place Podium in Fontana
Action Shot

Team AMSOIL road racing star Larry Pegram competed at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. on the weekend of March 20-22. After a strong practice session, Pegram’s first race was cut short on the third corner by a horrific highside accident that left him motionless on the track and prompted a red flag. Although he was unable to make the restart, medics cleared him to compete in Sunday’s race.

Despite strong chances of rain and his near concussion on Saturday, Pegram bounced back in spectacular form on Sunday,

putting the accident behind him and charging hard from the start all the way to the checkered flag. He was rewarded with a strong third place podium finish and moved into seventh in the overall AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike championship standings.

The Fontana races will air Saturday, March 28 at 10 p.m. Eastern on SPEED TV.

The AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike Championship now heads back east to Road Atlanta, where the third round of the series will take place April 3-5.
