After the first night of the Cedar Lake Speedways Opener
Special, I had the opportunity to meet with Pat Doar. I have always
had great respect for Doar, simply because of his ability to pilot
his number 11 late model like no other.
The main topic I wanted to cover was his thoughts
on the Cedar Lake Speedways decision to introduce the Super
Late Model division. There are many people that feel this
decision will break Cedar Lake Speedway and others that feel strongly
it is one of the best changes that has happened to dirt late models.
I myself am neutral on this topic. My opinion is that the late model
drivers will make the decision. No one really knows what will happen
until the late model drivers decide whether to race at Cedar Lake
on a weekly basis without earning Wissota National points or to
stick with Wissota rules.
DirtHeadquarters.com: Do you think
the decision by Cedar Lake to run a Super Late Model division sponsored
by Goodyear was a wise move or will it hurt Cedar Lake?
Doar: I have a lot of mixed feelings on the topic, but
I do like the new payout that was put into effect for the Super
Late Model Series.
DirtHeadquarters.com: Do you think
that it will gain more cars for Cedar Lake?
Doar: I am unsure whether it will gain more cars or not.
There are pluses and minuses and it will depend on how everyone
reacts to the changes made.
DirtHeadquarters.com: What are your
thoughts on the actual race track here at Cedar Lake Speedway?
Doar: I love this track. I have turned more laps here
then anywhere. I am sure that fans and other drivers can tell how
much I like this track as well because of the way I drive here.
DirtHeadquarters.com: Are you planning
on racing at Cedar Lake on a regular basis?
Doar: I only live 6 miles from the track and with the
price of fuel now, I plan to run here as much as I can. I will be
going to a great number of specials throughout the 2005 season.
DirtHeadquarters.com: Do you plan to
run for the Wissota National Championship during the 2005 season?
Doar: I am not planning on running just for the Wissota
National Championship. When I won the National Championship I did
not plan to run for it then. I just looked at the points one day
and realized that I was doing very well and everything just fell
together after that.
DirtHeadquarters.com: At the beginning
of the 2005 season you ran a red mastersbuilt, I am sure that everyone
has noticed that you ran a black car at Cedar Lake tonight. Is this
the same car and just a different body, or is this a completely
different car?
Doar: (Smiling) "This is a completely different
car. This car is a 2002 mastersbuilt. I did not have good luck with
my new car so I thought I would bring this car to Cedar Lake for
the opener and it paid off for me. This car that we ran tonight
has over 100 shows on it!
