DOAR BEST AT ASHLAND AMSOIL LATE MODEL SERIES EVENT
By Jerry O'Brien 7-25-08 Ashland, WI
Veteran Late Model racer Pat Doar of New Richmond, WI won everything he entered Friday night July 25 as he dominated the WISSOTA AMSOIL Late Model Series action at the ABC Raceway before a great crowd. Surprisingly enough it was Doar's first career victory at the tight three-eights mile bullring. "I've been coming here a lot since 1991" Doar said in the post race interview "And this is my first feature win. It's been a long time coming".

Doar started out the night with a strong run to the checkered flag in his heat race and followed it up with a win in the Dash that gave him the pole position for the 35 lap main event. But it was outside pole starter and local favorite Don Copp who got the jump at the green flag on the 25 car field that included all of the Series' former champions except Brady Smith (2001). Doar fell into second ahead of Jake Redetzke, Rick Hanestad and Steve Laursen. Copp attempted to put some distance on the field but Doar would have none of it, closed up and the two ran side by side. The caution flag, the first of four, flew on lap two when Jeff Massingill stopped on the back stretch with a flat tire. Copp restarted alone out front and Redetzke and Doar were in the second row with Hanestad and Laursen in row three. At the green flag Copp again ran out front but Doar's start was not good and he fell back to fifth as Redetzke, Hanestad and Laursen boiled past. John Massingill and Travis Budiaslavich tangled in turn one bringing out the yellow flag for the second time. Budisalavich was out of the event while Masingill continued. The caution flag erased Copp's lead. Copp was able to pull away at the green flag as Hanestad and Laursen battled for third. Redetzke began to make up ground on Copp and caution flag number three flew for Darrell Nelson who was debuting a brand new chassis. The defending series champion fell from competition finishing 21st. With 21 laps remainging the green flag appeared with Copp still in command. Doar, meanwhile, was rebounding from his poor restart and charged back into the top three. Redetke drew alongside Copp and Doar and Hanestad, locked in a skirmish for third, drew closer to the front running duo and suddenly there was a four car battle for the top spot with 18 circuits remaining. With ten laps to go Redetzke took over the top spot as Copp began to slip back to fourth. Two laps later Doar gained his first lead of the contest and began to pull away from Redetzke but the final caution flag for Jeff Massingill closed everything up again setting up a five lap dash to the checkered flag. Doar was more than equal to the task and led the remaining circuits for his first feature win at the ABC Raceway Redetzke, Hanestad, copp and Pete Parker finished in the front five.
