Lovell Rock Racing - 2005 UROC Champions
September 1, 2005

For the second time in as many years, Lovell Rock Racing takes home a series championship. "It means a lot more this year because this is the UROC Pro National Series, the best of best." said Brad Lovell, "It took a winning combination of the vehicle, team members, and sponsors." The team entered the series finals held in Vernal, UT tied for the series championship with Rock Runner Racing's Brian Errea and Jochiam Schwiesow. Both teams got off to a rocky start, not finishing their first courses of the event. Spotter Roger Lovell said, "We thought we were done but then saw Errea roll on his course, that rarely happens and kept the door open." Both teams quickly got it together and successfully completed courses the rest of the event.

Team Lovell twisted and turned through the courses putting themselves in 1st place at the end of regular competition. Rock Runner Racing trailed in a distant 5th place. " We did the math before the finals and realized that we could not be caught in the series points race" said Brad, "Our only problem was our meager lead of 5 points on Dean Bulloch for the event win". Similar to the other teams, Dean Bulloch had not finished his first course of the event but was quietly making up ground. Dean Bulloch, also known as the "Iceman" is notorious for calm nerves under pressure. His experience was apparent as he completed the final round by only taking out one cone. Team Lovell only needed to repeat his feat but the pressure, a rain squall, and a minor slip of the front tires resulted in a touched start gate, effectively handing Dean the win. "Our only regret is hitting the start gate in the finals, and one gate is all it takes to hand over a victory." Lovell Rock Racing ended up with a 2nd place finish.

Team Lovell's consistent performance with 2005 finishes of 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 2nd, and 2nd was great enough for them to take home the "Golden Axle Shaft".

Lovell Racing wish to sincerely thank their sponsors, family, and friends for support. Roger said "We have had several last minute patch jobs including replacing an engine only days before an event. It never would have been possible without the help of everyone involved." Brad continued, "We would also like to thank the competitors, volunteer judges, and UROC for providing the energy to make these events happen." Lovell Rock Racing has one event left this fall - Supercrawl IV to be held at the Los Vegas Convention Center in conjunction with SEMA. Supercrawl is the largest event of the year bringing together the top 100 rockcrawling teams. Look for coverage from this event scheduled for October 28th - 30th.
