AMSOIL Late Model Series Races into Superior
Nelson leads chase into stretch run
Superior, Wis. – Harry Hanson (Eveleth, Minn.) dominated the last AMSOIL Late Model Series race on July 27 at the ABC Raceway in Ashland, Wis., but its Duluth, Minn. native Darrell Nelson who is leading the six-race series heading into Friday night’s showdown in Superior.
Hanson blasted away from the 25-car field and dominated the action for most of the 35 laps. Ashland saw 36 of the top late models show up for the second race of the AMSOIL Late Model Series, including past champions Nelson, Pat Doar and Steve Laursen. Nelson, who finished second to Hanson in Ashland, has overtaken the series points race by two points over Tom Nesbitt and three over Joel Cryderman. Hanson moved into the top 10 and sits in eighth with 89 points.
“I knew we had a good car under us,” said Nelson after his second place finish. “I won this series once before, and I want to win it again. AMSOIL has been a great sponsor for me for a long time and winning this series would mean a lot to me.”
A full field of late models is expected to roar around the ½-mile clay oval at the Superior Speedway on Friday, August 17 in Superior, Wis. Hot laps will begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m. The event will be sponsored by AMSOIL, Fox 21, The Shack, Superior Beverage and Casper Disability Services.
