Gerald comes out of Bark River 7 points out of the points lead.
Forest County Potawatomi Light buggy driver Matt Gerald and his team came into Bark River after sweeping Crandon 3 weeks prior with high hopes. Being the point’s leader Matt was forced to the outside of row one for the land-rush start. Gerald knew he’d have his work cut out for him. When the green flag flew Matt got a good jump and as the crowd funneled into turn one Matt was on the outside of the right hand turn and got forced into some deep mud letting nearly everyone bye. Matt was in 25th and started picking off car after car. Dealing with several cars and some unnecessary slamming, bumping and blocking from another driver, Matt got around the slower car twice cleanly. Matt made his way all the way up to 6th after a slow start. Matt was able to click off some of the fastest lap times of the day. “Not the start we where looking for today, It’s really hard being the points leader off the start here, the inside guys have too much of an advantage. We were happy with the Forest County Potawatomi car today, it took some hard hits and we were happy to come out with all 4 tires pointed in the right direction. Tonight Tyler & Jeremy will go through the Potawatomi/Amsoil/Goodyear buggy and make sure every thing is in tip top shape for tomorrow.” Said Gerald
Round 6
After a quick pre-race pep talk with Matt’s teammate 5-time Pro Lite Champion Jeff Kincaid, Matt was focused on what he needed to do to get to the front. Off the start Matt was able to get through the start a little better and came out around 15th. Matt made quick work of a couple cars getting around them in the Sweeper turn, which is one of Matt’s strong points at Bark River. “My Goodyear’s really hook up on that corner. I’m able to really rail the corner” Matt was passing several cars on the outside of the tricky sweeper. Matt ended up working up to 4th right behind the 2nd & 3rd place finishers on the last lap. Matt definitely made his presence known that he’s going to be tough to beat when the series returns back to Bark River. Matt on his mission to the front, clicked off the fastest lap of the day over 2007 champion Jamie Kliekamp and race winner Mike Vanden Heuvel. “All and all we’re happy with our weekend. We came out with 2 strong races. If I could have only gotten a good enough of a launch to get a little further to the right off the start, I think we had a better chance at running Vanden Heuvel down.
Right now Matt and The Forest County Potawatomi team trail Mike Vanden Heuvel in the points race by 7 and have a commanding lead on 3rd and 4th. Next race is in Oshkosh, WI on July 25th & 26th. Not only will Matt be piloting the #195 Potawatomi Buggy, he’ll also be running the Traxxas/ Potawatomi #4 Pro Lite for Jeff Kincaid.
Matt and the Gerald Racing Team would like to thank all of their partners and supporters for 2008.
