AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship

AMSOIL - USAC

Overview

The AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship series represents the largest group of open-wheeled, non-winged sprint cars in North America.   "Sprint" aptly describes this series, since most of these races are "sprints," or short distance races. Sprint cars are among the most exciting race cars ever manufactured, and USAC has designed circuits especially for these cars including National, Western, CRA and Rocky Mountain series.

Sprint cars are lightweight, high-horse- powered powerful machines which provide a racing experience like no other. These 1,400-pound rockets combine the thrill of raw power with the heart-stopping action of non-wing sprint car racing. Dirt rooster tails, wheel stands and three wide racing are the norm at more than 90 annual events. Sprint cars are also run on paved tracks, and any driver with aspirations of a championship must be able to negotiate both dirt and pavement.

Sprint cars are powered by up to 410 cu. in., V-8 engines with aluminum blocks and cylinder heads specially prepared for racing. These engines are methanol fuel injected and typically produce upwards of 800 horsepower. With so much power behind such light vehicles, sprint car racing delivers some fantastic thrills.
