Rock Maple Racing (RMR) is a sanctioning body for snocross racing with a home office located in Derry, New Hampshire. The snocross season runs from early December through the first weekend in April.
There are three series within the RMR umbrella; the flagship Central series, with a nine-race schedule at sites in New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and New York; a five-race East series which runs in combination with Central series events in Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire, and a five-race West series that competes throughout the state of New York.
There are classes for all ages and ability level within Rock Maple Racing. The breakdown for the five basic divisions is as follows; Pro, Semi-Pro, Sport, Junior and Women. There is also a separate program for children ages six to 10 who compete on 120cc machines.
A sampling of sites for RMR's Central series includes the famed New England Dragway in Epping, NH; the Black Mountain of Maine ski area in Rumford; the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Malone, NY; and the old Mount Whittier ski area in Ossipee, New Hampshire. The RMR West series competes at a host of great sites, including the Windham Mtn. ski area in Windham, NY; the popular Pit-X track in Verona, NY; Murphy Flats in Stamford, NY; and at the beautiful Peek N' Peak ski resort in Findley Lake, New York.
Each week, hundreds of race teams from around the northeast converge at the scheduled race site; anxious to do battle for race wins, trophies and valuable points towards the year-end championships.
From its infancy in the winter of 1991-92, RMR has grown well beyond all expectations. The winter of 2008-09 marks Rock Maple's 17th consecutive season of snocross competition.
A dedicated PR effort for the past six years has brought increased media coverage to the sport, exposing snocross to more people who may not have been aware of it in the past. From a little-known sport to a highly-popular and rapidly-growing phenomenon, this transformation which snocross racing has enjoyed in the northeastern United States has been made possible in part by the efforts of Rock Maple Racing.
