Harley-Davidson/AMSOIL Oil Chart

AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil is a premium oil designed for those who demand the absolute best lubrication for their motorcycles. It is the result of extensive research and is specially formulated to excel in all areas unique to motorcycles, including the high temperatures of air-cooled engines such as Harley-Davidson* V-twins, wet-clutch lubrication, extreme-pressure regions of gears and chains and rust common to short trips and storage. AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil is multi-functional and fulfills the requirements of both domestic and foreign motorcycles.

AMSOIL, the leader in synthetic lubrication, produced the world’s first API-qualified synthetic motor oil in 1972. Trust the extensive experience of AMSOIL, The First in Synthetics,® to do the best job protecting your motorcycle.

Withstands Extreme Heat
To prove its extreme-heat performance, AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil was installed in a 2012 Harley-Davidson FXDB Dyna Street Bob* motorcycle. After deactivating the electronic temperature controls to increase severity, the engine was subjected to extensive idle time broken by short bursts of revving to simulate the intense heat conditions of a rally or parade route. Despite little air flow and cylinder temperatures reaching more than 500°F, the oil maintained viscosity and delivered outstanding protection (see graph).

Reduces Wear and Deposits
AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil contains a heavy treatment of anti-wear additives to reduce wear regardless of the operating conditions. It is thermally (heat) stable and contains maximum levels of oxidation inhibitor additives. AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil is extremely resistant to breakdown and engineered to prevent damaging sludge and carbon deposits for superior engine cleanliness.

Provides Extreme-Pressure Quality Protection for Gears and Chains
AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil delivers exceptional protection in transmissions and primary chaincases. It is absolutely shear stable and will not thin out from mechanical activity. AMSOIL 20W-50 V-Twin Motorcycle Oil performs like a gear lube without the negative effects of extreme-pressure additives. In the FZG gear test, AMSOIL achieved a perfect score with a "zero" wear rating.

Delivers Superior Rust Protection
Motorcycles are prone to rust from storage, humidity and short drives. Rust can cause major damage such as roller bearing failure, wear, compression loss and blow-by. Good rust protection, however, comes by design and is not natural to motor oils. Unlike many motorcycle oils, AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil contains special anti-rust agents. It passes the ASTM D1748 humidity cabinet rust test, demonstrating superior rust protection to help your engine achieve maximum performance and long life.

Provides Excellent Wet-Clutch Performance
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil contains no friction modifiers and promotes smooth shifting and positive clutch engagement. It controls heat and helps prevent slippage and glazing, while its high TBN helps improve clutch life by resisting the acids that can degrade clutch material.

APPLICATIONS
Engineered for use in motorcycles that require 15W-50 or 20W-50 motorcycle oil, including those made by Harley-Davidson*, Buell*, KTM*, Ducati*, Aprilia*, BMW* and Triumph*. Do not use where an API GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil is required.

*All trademarked names and images are the property of their respective owners and may be registered marks in some countries. No affiliation or endorsement claim, express or implied, is made by their use. All products advertised here are AMSOIL-engineered for use in the applications shown.

COMPATIBILITY
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil is compatible with other synthetic and conventional motor oils. Mixing AMSOIL oils with other oils, however, will shorten the oil’s life expectancy and reduce its performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.

Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oils.

Service Life
Recommended for use up to twice the motorcycle manufacturer change interval (miles/hours) or one year, whichever comes first, in engines, transmissions and primary chaincases. For Big Twin Harley-Davidson transmissions only, follow the Harley-Davidson recommended drain interval for synthetic oil of up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. When using an engine filter other than AMSOIL Ea®, change the filter at standard intervals.

For off-road use, change AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil at motorcycle manufacturer-recommended intervals.

Racing or modified engines are excluded from extended drain interval recommendations. Oil changes are at the owner's discretion.

I ride a 2003 FLHTI and ride it hard. I just put 1,200 miles on it last weekend for example. A couple of weeks ago I made the mistake of heading through Baker, NV on a 113°F day in heavy traffic. Last year at this time, I made a worse mistake and headed through DeathValley in temperatures of 123°F. Both stupid decisions, not just because I'm on an air cooled Harley, running a 9 cylinder radial motor missing 7 cylinders, I was riding two-up with my wife and I about to die of heat stroke. On both occasions my oil temperature hit 300°F and on this last trip in traffic, 330°F. And while I was freaking out and eventually pulled over at the first shade spot, the Amsoil 20W-50 did its job and kept the bike lubricated, cool enough and did not break down. I still change oil every 2,500 miles and change the primary, transmission and filter every 5,000 miles. But examining the oil, it had not broken down any worse than on a normal oil change interval. I used to run Redline and could not say the same thing since their reformulation with detergents. It would break down and badly between 2,500 mile changes. So I run Amsoil ATM in my primary and Amsoil Sever Gear in my Transmission and of course, Amsoil Signature Series 20W-50 in my crank. This set up performs very well in my bike, now with 78,000 miles since the 95" build.

I have used Amsoil in my 2008 Harley Road King since the break in oil was changed. Back then it was different oil for the Crank, Primary and Tranny. Last summer, I had the yearly preseason maintenance on her and they used other oils including Redshift. Not only did I see an increase in operating temp., but the loud clank that is known to all Harley owners when shifting was louder.
This year, I went back to Amsoil and started using the 20W-50 Synthetic in all 3 units, Crank, Primary and tranny. My operating temp. fell a full 30 degrees, the bike shifts ultra smooth and the famous clunk at shifts is just a click. My King deserves the best! DON'T YOURS?

Comments about 20W-40 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil:

I use this oil all of the time. My last bike had 90000 when i sold it and it still runs great. I had the covers off adjusting the valves and my neighbor ask what could be wrong in such a clean engine. It had 80000+ miles at the time. Much of that 90000 was in DC traffice for hours. Other oils ran too hot and the bike pinged. Not with Amsoil

My new to me victory will get the same treatment
14000 mile in 10 months and runs even better now. Great product

      Redline to Amsoil

Comments about 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil:

Recent purchases of modern day cars and motorcycles almost demand the use of high quality synthetic motor oils. They're many different brands out on the market, some obviously offer better protection than others. Rather than splitting hairs on what oil offers better protection and drivability, my recent change is purchase and availability. Redline has in my opinion one of the easiest ways to purchase their product, mail order. Going to their company web sight and selecting their product for my small fleet of cars and motorcycles was the simplest, and to some extend, less costly than their competitors.
After the initial use of Amsoil on my new Harley Road Glide, I notice shifting much improved. Instead of the loud clunk into first gear, I how have a click. Very impressive.

I could not believe the difference in how my motorcycle operated after replacing oem oil with Amsoil full synthetic. The bike ran quieter in all gears. It ran cooler and smoother. I'm very impressed. I will be an Amsoil customer for life.
