Border
to Border, Team AMSOIL Never Sleeps
|
| Within
one week the AMSOIL Snocross team was within 10 miles of the
Canadian border and 100 miles of the Mexican border. The week
started out at Polaris headquarters in Roseau, MN to participate
in their 50th anniversary celebration. From there it was down
I-35 to San Antonio, TX for a visit to Air Force headquarters.
Ricky (Strobel) and I arrived at 1630 in San Antonio after driving
1500 miles. D.J. (Eckstrom) and Carl (Schubitzke) arrived at
the same time after a grueling two-hour flight. |

It
was breakfast at the mess hall with most of the top echelon
of the U.S. Air Force. This was the start of a two-day promotional
visit with the Air Force. After breakfast D.J. and Carl started
preparing for their guest flight in a T-38 jet. There was a
4-hour training briefing showing the drivers how to eject from
the plane and use a parachute as well. While this was going
on Ricky and I had the transporter on display for Air Force
personnel. This flight is truly a once in a lifetime experience
for Carl and D.J. They went up simultaneously in two T-38s and
spent over an hour in the air. They experienced 4 and 5 g's
as they were taken through different maneuvers. Talk about "
Big Air!" |

DJ
and Carl spent most of the afternoon recording public service
announcements. Recruiters all over the United States for recruiting
and promoting will use these ads. They will also go to the troops
stationed overseas and present a real positive message about
achieving your goals and dreams and staying away from peer pressure.
This was all done in a state of the art recording studio on
base. |

It
was off to dinner with Sgt. Aubrey and other officers within
the marketing arm. Texas is a state with great barbecues and
Mexican restaurants and not a lot of Chinese food. |

This
morning was breakfast with the General. This was a great opportunity
to talk about our relationship with AMSOIL and how A.J. Amatuzio was a retired Air Force pilot. We spent a fair amount
of time talking about all the products AMSOIL makes. He was
very impressed with the tie in with Big Al and the military. |

0900
hours: Lackland Air Force Base |
| |
|
Every
Friday the Air Force graduates between 600 and 1000 from Basic
Military training. We viewed the ceremony as distinguished guests.
They let us park the transporter right along the field where
the ceremony took place. I would guess about 6000 people got
a close up look of our rig. |

1200
hours: Dog Training |
| |
|
This
is the only place in the U.S. that trains dogs for bomb detection,
drug searching and personal protection during combat. About
350 dogs are trained here every year and go to the FBI, FAA,
and police departments as well as all the branches of the military. |

After
lunch it was on to weapons training. We were fortunate enough
to get an inside look at what their law enforcement goes through.
In the training room was a full life size screen that was tied
into a computer-simulated scenario. You would get a real life
situation and determine what level of force to use. After you
shoot the 9mm or M16 at the criminal the computer lets you know
where your bullets hit, how many shots were fired, and how many
of the hits were fatal. It also told you if you were to slow
on the trigger and they got you first. |

1600
hours: Special forces |
| |
|
Witnessing
the training these soldiers endured was a real eye opener. They
spend most of there waking hours doing some type of running,
swimming, lifting, or some other type of strenuous activity.
They are also trained in motorcycle, snowmobiles, and other
vehicle operations. They travel to different sites all over
the U.S. and train all day. My guess is Carl and D.J. can still
out jump them on a sled. |
| |
1800
hours: Autograph Session |
| |
|
To
conclude the trip we parked the transporter at the BX (minimal)
and D.J. and Carl signed autographs for several hours. It was
amazing as to how many recruits knew who they were and had watched
them on TV. |

2000
hours: Road Trip |
| |
|
After
a fast paced two days it was time to head north. It was another
24-hours of solid driving. Our Kenworth runs AMSOIL 5W-30 Diesel
Oil in the engine. What impressed me was how cool the motor
ran in the extreme temperatures in Texas. We put on about 5000
miles that week and our truck never missed a beat. AMSOIL is
the best both on and off the track! |
